Developement of the Kleintraktor was continued from the Leichttraktor. On Feb 14 1930 Wa.Prw.6 discussed the developement of the kleintractor; stating that the technical requirements be that the vehicle be capable of being used as a scouting vehicle, weapons carrier (waffentraeger), and a small towing vehicle. A wooden mockup of a open-back turret containing one machine gun was bolted to the hull. The hull contained the engine, clutch, and the four speed transmission in the front; and was made of sheet metal plates that are welded together. The hull also had four towing eyes: two on the front and two on the back.
